First meeting of the project NEXT-AG

The NEXT-AG project began in May 2018 and will end in May 2021. The initial gathering of our project’s participants took place in September 2018, when our research team from the United Kingdom, Chile, Peru and Ecuador, met with key stakeholders and visited the case study areas in Peru and Ecuador. Workshops were organized with representatives of the public and private sectors, the civil society and academics. As a result of these preliminary activities, we gained an understanding of the current situations in the case study zone.

Welcome to the Project Advisory Board

NEXT-AG welcomes the members of our Project Advisory Board (PAB). The Board is composed of representatives of various stakeholder groups and has been assembled to help NEXT-AG researchers to understand the problems and interrelationships among stakeholders, and on-the-ground objectives, feasibility and implications of the modeling efforts. It will also review and help set possible policy recommendations that will emerge from the project.

Water Science for Impact Conference

Dr Gloria Salmoral, one of the researchers in the NEXT-AG project, attended an international conference last week at Wageningen University (The Netherlands). The Water-Energy-Food-Ecosystem nexus was one of the main topics of the Water Science for Impact Conference.  Universidad Autonoma de Barcelona (Dr Cristina Madrid and Violeta Cabello), IIASA (Dr Barbara Willaarts) and Cranfield University (Dr Gloria Salmoral) jointly organized the doubled session ‘Stop the buzzword: closing persistent gaps in the implementation of the Water-Energy-Food Nexus’. The session in the morning presented the four nexus research projects – NEXT-AG, ISWEL, IANEX, MAGIC – articulated around the relevance and methods used for stakeholder engagement. Our colleague Dr Gloria Salmoral presented the talk ‘Nexus thinking for sustainable agricultural development in Andean’ representing our NEXT-AG. The session after lunch had a participatory format with the creation of an Open Space to discuss the challenges in nexus research under three topics: science for governance, stakeholders’ engagement and integration of qualitative information in quantitative modelling. A summary of the main outcomes from the Open Space will be made available soon through our website.
